Amgen Parking Structure # 8 as it is referred to, is a six and one half level parking structure containing approximately 1,657 parking spaces. This parking structure lies in the campus like setting of Amgen Pharmaceutical Company’s headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California and is used exclusively for employee parking.
This parking structure was delivered on a design build delivery method for the client and was completed on time and on budget. The parking structure is a type I, fully sprinklered, post tensioned, poured in place, concrete structure which incorporates approximately 7,000 square foot IFS area for medical waste storage, stored here prior to being disposed of site. Project requirements included no dead end conditions which lead to a crossover of the double helix ramps at the roof tier and also included 8’- 3” clear height throughout.
The added clearance ensured visibility of the extensive security system installed throughout the structure. The project is nestled into a steep hillside sloping from west to east. Therefore the lowest two levels are cut into the embankment and were made underground at the west end of the parking structure while the East end daylights at the sloping grade.
Particular attention to detail ensured that the openness requirement of the structure was maintained by berming and terracing the landscape at the north and south facades of the structure to maintain the open air requirement with no mechanical ventilation.
